The objectives of this study are to (i) evaluate the process controlling fluoride (F–) removal by ceriumimpregnated activated carbon (AC–Ce) composite, and (ii) assess the performance of that composite in the fixed-bed column as a filter. The AC–Ce composites were synthesized by collecting AC from different sources (ACDarco and ACEco). The observations from this study suggest that the homogeneous distribution of amorphous Ce within ACDarco–Ce results in high F-sorption. Formation of crystalline CeO2 and small pore size of ACEco inhibits F-sorption by ACEco–Ce. The ACDarco–Ce composite in fixed-bed filter media can treat up to 722 ml of F- contaminated water.
