The structural deformation characteristics of coalfield were researched according to the tectonic evolution analysis and the structural deformation geometric type of coal-rock strata. The formation mechanism of structural deformation was further discussed from two aspects of multilayer strata structural deformation and tectonic evolution. The results show that the coalfield mainly experienced the compression action of two period's tectonic movement of Indosinian and Yanshanian. Under the comprehensive action of the compression deformation of two period tectonic movements, the structural deformation presents four characteristics of division, classification, zonation and superposition. The competent bed of coal-bearing rock series and tectonic stress field are the primary factor to control the characteristics of structural deformation. There into, the thickness of competent bed controls the division of structural deformation. The deformation types of competent bed controls the classification of structural deformation. The compression action of tectonic stress field controls the generation and distribution of structural deformation zonation. The comprehensive action of the two periods tectonic stress field results in the superposition of the principal stress orientation of tectonic stress field and structural deformation types, and controls the superposition of the structural deformation of coalfield.
