This paper describes a drive-by-wire system concept and the management system required for the same. It also includes the benefits of a DbW system; the protocols used for the communication systems-CAN, TTP/C, LIN and FlexRay. We also identified a set of features & properties that are the core requirements of DbW systems. This paper also describes the design of a DbW system for a commercial lift truck using the FlexCAN communication architecture. It also gives the idea of FlexCAN architecture in brief.
