An Application of Artificial Intelligence in Modern Agriculture

Agriculture is the most important industry and a big part of our economy. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), agricultural companies contribute approximately $330 billion in annual sales to our economy. Along with climate change and population growth, artificial intelligence is transforming into technological innovation that increases and defends US crop production. Here are some basic ways artificial intelligence can contribute to the agricultural industry. Many farms are using drone science and technology to provide excellent images to help mark crops, while also scanning and inspecting fields to accumulate vital agricultural data. Imaging science can also help identify crops and their progress, including health status, and determine readiness. For example, these snapshots allow farmers to determine if and when their crops are mature and ready for harvest. In addition, image science can help with general area management, and can provide real-time estimates to identify areas where specific vegetation may need more water, fertilizer, soil, or pesticides.
