Application of Coherent De-Dispersion DSP Algorithms in Study of Pulsar Data
Subscribe/Renew Journal
In Radio astronomy the radio-frequency signals, due to propagation through plasma, arrive in dispersed form, wherein signals with different frequencies arrive with different delays. Therefore appropriate phase or delay corrections at high spectral resolution are necessary. The process of removing the effect of dispersion is known as “De-dispersion”. Therefore signal processing techniques are crucial for detecting astronomical signals, this paper discusses relevant techniques and their application for detecting electromagnetic radiation from radio pulsars. Incoherent and coherent de-dispersion techniques are implemented and compared on a few pulsar data. De-dispersed data will aid the process of study of pulsars, wherein this paper will discuss the process of computing pulsar stokes, estimating pulsar period and dispersion measure.
