Performance Optimization for Mobile Environments
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET) uses data caching techniques to resolve the contention issues. By using data caching, the system performance and the probability of nodes getting desired data can be improved but the maintenance of data consistency between the client cache and the server evolves as a major issue. The messages that are sent between the server and the cache are affected by network delays, thus, impeding consistency. The authors are proposing the novel approach using the server update mechanism for the cache update process which relatively increases the update rate at the server. Necessary mechanisms are proposed to handle the disconnections of Query Directories and Cache Nodes from the network. Besides this the article also specifies how the cache of each node is updated or discarded when it returns to the network. Results of the study exemplifies that the proposed mechanism is improving data consistency and tunes cache update rate significantly thus improving the overall performance of the MANET.
