Design of Control for Low Cost Wind Turbine using Boost Converters
Subscribe/Renew Journal
A low-cost wind turbine controller is presented based on a standard electric drive circuit. In order to reduce the current of each IGBT and reduce the harmonic current into the grid, a multiple AC-DC-AC full-scale converter which is suitable for high power direct drive wind power generation systems is adopted. The reasons of DC-link voltage fluctuation of the grid-connected converter are analyzed. This allows significant cost savings over current commercially available devices. DC–DC buck/boost converter composed of insulated gate bipolar transistors. As the voltage and frequency of generator output vary along the wind speed change, a dc-dc boosting chopper is utilized to maintain constant dc link voltage. This paper is a study on the control techniques.
