Application of Particle Swarm Optimization System for Antenna Arrays

This paper presents recent advances in applying particle swarm optimization (PSO) to antenna designs. The algorithm has the flexibility to handle both real and binary variables, as well as multi-objective problems with more than one optimization goals. In this paper Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is applied to different problems in antenna arrays. The PSO is applied to synthesize the radiation patterns of linear arrays using the adaptive array technique. Both simulation and measurement results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of applying swarm intelligence to design antennas with desired frequency response and radiation characteristics for antenna array applications.
