A software radio that is capable to be aware of the surrounding environment is termed as cognitive radio. It is a radio that changes PHY layer properties based on environment and traffic needs. Allocated users (PU) and unallocated users (SU) should coexist each other and share the spectrum to avoid interference. Coexistence between users necessitates the spectrum sensing. Multicarrier is used for channel sensing. As Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing based sensing has loss in bandwidth, Filter Bank Multi Carrier based sensing is suggested as a suitable method for control channel. Interference between PU and SU are avoided by proper filtering methods. Hidden terminal problem that occurs in the network can be avoided by Cooperative Spectrum Sensing (CSS). An optimal fusion rule to improve the performance of FBMC is analyzed. Voting rule is also applied for fusion CSS under AWGN channel. Noises are added in the path to test the concept of interference to PU. Results prove the need of FBMC and sensing for the control channel design. Wastage of power is minimized in the network which defines the term of Green Sensing.
