with the kind of rapid growth that various enterprises and social networking enterprises are witnessing, their enterprise data especially unstructured data is growing at blistering rate. This has led to fierce competition amongst various cloud storage service provider companies which offer many options to store data using cloud.

Most of the access APIs offered by cloud storage service providers are not in accordance with each other. This is a barrier for most of the customers to move data from one cloud storage service provider to another. Answer to this lies in implementation of a common cloud standard. Such pioneering standard in cloud storage is Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI) put forth by Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA).

In this paper, we present an overview of this specification standard, which describes for handling of containers, data objects and metadata associated with them.
