A Survey on Metamaterial Based Microstrip Patch Antenna
Subscribe/Renew Journal
In modern wireless and satellite communication systems, the demand for high gain, wide bandwidth, low cost, compact antenna has been increased rapidly. Generally, an antenna is a transducer that converts electrical signals to electromagnetic wave and then radiates into space. The parameters such as Gain, Bandwidth, Directivity, Efficiency and Return loss can be used to measure the performance of the antenna. The different types of antenna such as Wire antenna, Aperture antenna, Microstrip antenna, Array antenna, Reflector antenna and Lens antenna. Among these different types of antenna, Microstrip antennas are attractive due to their low cost, light weight, etc. Even though, patch has many advantages that it suffers from two drawbacks (i.e) narrow bandwidth and low gain. Metamaterial is used to overcome the drawbacks of patch antennas. Several techniques have implemented for improving the antenna parameters of the patch antenna. This review paper aims to discuss about different metamaterial structures loaded with microstrip patch antenna.
