Being in the age of information, we are bombarded with large volumes and diverse types of information. Information engineering is a family of data-oriented analysis and techniques used to design, develop, and maintain information systems which support strategic missions, decision processes, and daily operations of a company. It is often regarded as a data-oriented methodology rather than a process-oriented methodology. This paper provides a brief introduction to information engineering.
