Surrogacy Bill: What are the Implications?

The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016 which ensures effective regulation of surrogacy, prohibits commercial surrogacy, and allows altruistic surrogacy to the needy Indian infertile couples was recently passed by the LokSabha with a voice vote. There has been much discussion and debate in the medical fraternity on this topic, and whether one is a fertility specialist or not, there is a need to understand the various aspects as applicable to clinical practice.
