Importance of Genetic Counseling in Everyday Medical Practice
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Medical practitioners, usually, are not very comfortable when required to make clinical and prognostic judgments and inferences on matters that entail genetics. Hardly surprising as most of them, myself included, were not adequately equipped with genetic insights into the development, treatment, and prognosis of illness. Part of this reluctance I believe is because of the inherent aversion among clinicians to keep themselves sufficiently abreast with advances in basic sciences. In no other specialty is the interplay between basic and clinical sciences as crucial as clinical genetics.
