Shewanella Putrefaciens: An Emerging Gram-Negative Bacillus Causing Pneumonia and Bacteraemia
Subscribe/Renew Journal
The medical community is facing a big threat of rising atypical gram-negative infections, which get further complicated with the emergence of multidrug resistant organisms. We report a case of 38-year-old male who was diagnosed with Shewanella pneumonia which was resistant to cefepime. To the best of our literature search, this is the fifth reported case of Shewanella putrefaciens pneumonia and second case of bacteraemia secondary to pneumonia by Shewanella putrefaciens.
