FDG PET/CT Scan in PEComa of Lung

Perivascular Epithelioid Cell neoplasms (PEComa) are rare mesenchymal tumors that can occur in any part of the body and have unpredictable pathological behavior. They are usually benign but may be malignant. We present a case of benign PEComa of the lung treated with surgery. For PEComas the diagnostic criteria and treatment options have not been established however increased fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in 18F-FDG Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) scan may characterize the lesion and helps in restaging prior to any treatment. Therefore, 18F-FDG PET/CT is helpful in staging and guiding treatment for PEComa with surgery or targeted therapy.
