Subscribe/Renew Journal
A 24 year old male was admitted to the hospital, suffering from compensated ketoacidosis and high blood sugar levels. On detailed history it was revealed that he was on olanzapine for more than 6 months as a part of treatment for bipolar disorder. Blood sugars were initially managed by intravenous and later by subcutaneous actrapid insulin. A proposed diagnosis of type I Diabetes mellitus vs Olanzapine induced DKA was put forward. Patient's requirement of insulin came down after olanzapine was discontinued.
