THE introduction in India of Septran, a combination of trimethoprim and sulphamethoxazole, as a new wide-spectrum antibacterial agent, has created considerable enthusiasm and has led to its widespread use. It may be well at this time to review the data available to date to determine the therapeutic usefulness of the drug combination.

Septran consists of 1 part of trimethoprim and 5 parts of sulphamethoxazole.
