Secondary Fahr's Disease in a Case of Pseudohypoparathyroidisim Type Ib
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Fahr's disease is idiopathic basal ganglia calcification, but may be secondary to other diseases. Pseudohypoparathyroidism is characterised by hypocalcaemia, hyperphosphataemia, raised parathyroid hormone level and soft tissue calcifications. Here we present an 18 year old female patient who clinically presented with seizures, mental retardation, muscular spasms and on investigations was found to have hypocalcaemia, hyperphosphataemia, raised parathyroid hormone level and bilateral basal ganglia calcification on CT brain, suggestive of Fahr's disease. We diagnosed this patient as a case of secondary Fahr's disease due to pseudohypoparathyroidism type 1b.
