Knowledge organizing tools (KOTs) include classification schemes, thesauri, taxonomies, semantic networks, etc. A preliminary step in designing and developing a KOT, say for a given subject field, is to create a corpus of terms representing the concepts in the field(sO selected, preferably showing the interrelationship among the concepts to facilitate organization and interlinking of the terms in the scheme for classification, thesaurus, etc. Existing thesauri, schemes for classification, dictionaries / glossaries of terms, and representative collection of documents in or covering the field can be of much help for this purpose.

Abstract

Knowledge organizing tools (KOTs) include classification schemes, thesauri, taxonomies, semantic networks, etc. A preliminary step in designing and developing a KOT, say for a given subject field, is to create a corpus of terms representing the concepts in the field(sO selected, preferably showing the interrelationship among the concepts to facilitate organization and interlinking of the terms in the scheme for classification, thesaurus, etc. Existing thesauri, schemes for classification, dictionaries / glossaries of terms, and representative collection of documents in or covering the field can be of much help for this purpose.
