Papers in Select Sociology Journals (1999-2004):A Bibliometric Analysis

The main objectives of the present study is to determine the growth of literature in the field of sociology and the related authorship pattern; value of group co-efficient for collaborative research and geographical distribution of papers during 1999-21003. The study shows that the highest number of papers (86) were published in 2001 and 2003. The number of single author papers is higher at 84% out of a total of 475. The value of group co-efficient (gp) was only 0.16. The degree of collaboration among the co-authors was minimum (0.02) in articles written by five authors and maximum (0.12) in two-author papers.
