Library Portals:Ontological Representation of Knowledge on the Web

Global networks, such as the Internet is transforming the information environment of distributed information resources and distributed computing. Distributed computing has pushed the trend towards higher level of abstraction and more formalized ontological support for information systems. This paper discusses the importance of ontology aid metadata on the web, a common need for high quality information in and from the Internet.
