In pursuance of the post graduation curriculum in Applied Geology of Presidency University, the author visited Iron Mine and observed the beneficiation process taking place, starting from excavation of raw iron ore to the removal of gangue minerals and finally producing a high grade product. The main ores of iron are hematite, magnetite, goethite and siderite. The three major steps in the excavation of ore are mine planning, face and bench mapping followed by drilling and blasting. After mining, the ROM (run of mine) is fed to beneficiation plants for producing the higher grade products. So processing or beneficiation is our main concern here.
