Sublethal Toxicity of Malathion Ec 50 on The Biochemical Parameters of Blood in Fejervarya limnocharis

Paddy fields are inhabited by several species of anuran amphibians. The biochemical changes induced by malathion in F. limnocharis reflect the interferences in various metabolic pathways of anurans of the paddy field. The toxicating impact affected the carbohydrate metabolism at the very outset as revealed by gradual increase in blood sugar level with continuation of exposure in F. limnocharis. F. limnocharis intoxicated with malathion at sub-lethal concentration (0.006 ppm) showed significant increase of blood glucose level from 24 hrs to 96 hrs of exposure ranging from (22.08±0.79) mg/dl to (34.23±0.51) mg/dl as compared to the control value 18.75 ±0.48 mg/dl. Changes in enzyme activity were also employed in the evaluation of toxicological response. Effects of sub-lethal concentrations of malathion (0.006 ppm) was studied on SGOT, SGPT and serum amylase level of F. limnocharis. The study revealed that in different hours of exposure (24 hrs lo 96 hrs) a significant increase in serum glutamate oxalate transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) and serum amylase in comparison with control were observed.
