A donor heart is a very scarce commodity. Therefore the engineers are now on the way of developing fully implantable artificial heart. A German system translated the concept from the laboratory on to animals. But still comprehensive tests must be performed before it can be implanted in a human body. 992 patients of Germany reported in the beginning of the year 2012 for a heart transplant with Eurotransplant. Ailing resident commission in the Netherlands organizes the disposal of donor hearts for a segment of European States. However, 362 of the patients were lucky to receive donor hearts - a fraction of the real requirement. The patients in the final phase of heart infirmity, who are watched over intensively, must wait for weeks together.
