Thermal Effects of Cutting on Mild and Alloy Steels
Subscribe/Renew Journal
It will be expected that local heating of steel by cutting, particularly with higher carbon steels; will cause hardening on and below the cut surface. Consideration of the principles of the process, however, and metallurgical examination of cut surfaces, show that this hardening effect is less in degree and depth than is probably generally supposed.
