Assembly Welding of India's First 300 Tonne Convertor

The increase in steel plant size in recent years has been accompanied by a corresponding increase in convertor vessel capacity and consequently its size. At Bokaro Steel Plant, a convertor of 300 Tonnes capacity, the first of its kind in India, is presently under assembly and installation. The convertor shell having a diameter of 8614 mm and a height of 10,770 mm has a shell plate thickness varying from 60 mm to 100 mm. The entire shell is supported on a trunnion ring, comprising of a box section made of plates 60 mm web thickness and 100 mm flange thickness. The depth of the section is 2.5m.
