I am extremely grateful to the Governing Council of The Indian Institute of Welding for the honour done to me by inviting me to deliver the Sir L. P. Misra Memorial Lecture at this august gathering today. It has been my good fortune to be intimately associated with and deeply involved as a technician in the electrode industry for the past twenty-five years, and to be able to make my humble contribution to its technological progress.
