Optimization of Cylindrical Shell with Ring Stiffeners

Cylindrical shells are used in civil, mechanical, aerospace, marine and offshore engineering; hence it is very important to analyze their vibration behavior. Many of researches have been held on vibration of cylindrical shells by various methods. Most of them have studied it by considering various boundary conditions and by taking the rings as the fixed to the ground. Fixing of cylindrical shell to the ground with the help of rings is very difficult task to perform on field. Therefore ring stiffeners are attached to the cylinder so as to increase its stiffness and minimize vibrations. In order to study the effect of vibration on cylindrical shell, five different cases are considered. The cylindrical shells are made up of mild steel with both ends are fixed to ground by flange&nut-bolt arrangement. The natural frequencies of shell with and without rings have been determined. The frequency of shell by changing the locations of ring stiffeners is studied, that is optimum positions of rings along the shell are found out. The results obtained by experimental method are verified by using F.E.A. (Ansys) software.
