Assessing Functional Status of Old Age Home Residents

Ageing is a natural process. It refers to a multidimensional process of physical, psychological and social changes. The present study was conducted in two old age homes in Madurai, Tamilnadu to assess the functional status of elderly both quantitatively and qualitatively. The non-experimental research approach of univariate descriptive design was adopted for the study. Using convenient sampling technique a total of 50 elderly who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected. The tool used for the study was COOP chart for adult primary care practice. The data collected by interview method was analyzed in descriptive statistics.

Results:38% of them were able to perform only light activities.50% of the elderly had some difficulty to perform their daily activities.46% of them stated their overall health was good.36% of them received quite a bit of support in the old age home.
