A Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Programme on Obesity and its Consequences among Adolescents in Selected Private High Schools

The study was conducted using pre experimental one group pretest-posttest design. The research variable was knowledge regarding obesity and its consequences, while the demographic variables were age, gender, religion, educational status of parents and monthly income of family, food pattern and source of information. The study was conducted on 120 adolescents of 8th and 9th standard from selected Private high schools using simple random sampling from four different schools of four zones of Belgaum and selected Private high schools from four zones of Belgaum, Karnataka, using stratified random sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection was structured knowledge questionnaire. The data obtained was tabulated and analyzed in terms of objectives of the study using descriptive and inferential statistics.

The findings on assessment of knowledge regarding obesity and its consequences showed that 69 (57.5%) adolescent had average knowledge and 30 (25%) had poor knowledge.

After the administration of planned teaching programme, the pre-test and post-test data analysis revealed that the mean post-test score (24±2.68) was higher than the mean pre test score (15.59±3.16).

The study concluded that Planned Teaching Programme was effective for high school students to gain knowledge regarding obesity and its consequences.
