Major Constraints in Production and Agricultural Prices of Major Food Grains in Chhattisgarh

The study was undertaken with the objective of examine the major constraints in production and prices of major food grains in Chhattisgarh and suggest suitable measures for improvement of the same. In order to achieve the objective of the study four district of Chhattisgarh state viz., Rajnandgaon, Bemetara, Kabirdham and Korea were selected, because paddy-wheat/gram, paddy-gram/wheat, soybean-gram and pigeonpea mustard cropping system were dominant in these districts, respectively. One block from each district namely Rajnandgaon, Bemetara, Kawardha and Baikunthpur were selected. Three villages were selected from the jurisdiction of each selected blocks. Twenty farmers from each village were selected randomly. Thus, in all two hundred forty farmers were selected for this study. The study was conducted for the crop year 2015-16. Finding of the study revealed that most of the respondents were in the age group of 18 to 40 years, educated upto high to higher secondary school and had operational land holding of 2.93 hectare. Majority of farmers were lacking the latest technical knowledge and recommended package of practices of the major food grains in the study area. In case of agricultural prices majority of farmers were unaware of minimum support prices of their all the crops due to low mass media exposer and extension contacts. Higher input prices and late payments for sold produce were also major constraints among selected farmers in study area.
