Any development project like residential building, hospital, dam, bridge, highways, railways, thermal power plant, factory, port, mine etc. requires first to be constructed and then to be used for specific purposes. So the construction industry has a very important role to play for economic development of the nation. The industry employs lakhs of labourers mostly semiskilled or unskilled. The industry is hazardous and has high probability of accidents and health impairment. It is, therefore, necessary to ensure safety, health and environmental protection of the workers as well as of the surrounding areas.
