Huge number of workers and employees are involved in tea, Jute and other traditional industries; with the closure of these industries, large no. of persons will be out of employment in this state. Naturally, we as trade unionists also feel that immediate steps should be taken to modernise the old industries as well as to build new modern industries in this region. You know that petroleum is a scarce and valuable item. Our fertiliser industry, particularly the industries in the Eastern Region, HFC & FCI units of fertiliser are not viable.
