Plain carbon steels when used as journal bearing materials have the disadvantage of metal to metal transfer, finally leading to seizure. But when they are treated with either sursulf treatment or tufftride, they behave satisfactorily. The specific wear rates are comparable to that of the conventional bearing materials, such as, brass or bronze.
