Padma Bhusan Professor M. S. Thacker (Member, Planning Commission) has been elected in succession to late Bharat Ratna Dr. Visvesvaraya, as honorary member of this Association. Professor Thacker has wide experience, dynamic personality and organising abilities. By joining this oldest Association, he would be able to serve the cause of engineers in general and this Association in particular. We offer our hearty co-operation to enhance the interest of engineers. Problems are numerous. The education minister is in favour of introducing correspondence course, others are in favour of a comparable title like A. M. I. E. and behold, the aspirants for this comparable title number nearly fifty thousands-far outnumbering the undergraduates of all engineering colleges of all the universities in India We are in favour of introducing external degree examination like the London University. Then there are junior technical schools, flourishing under diverse ministries in each state and attempt at integration and re-orientation will fail so long as there is lust for power, Professor Thacker is capable to lead the country in such confusion and we trust he would come forward.
