Dr. M. Visvesvaraya
Subscribe/Renew Journal
When I read what the authors of "The Plan for Economic Development" had written, I felt that they were not correct when in 1944 they wrote" the conception of a planned economy for India is very largely due to National Planning Committee." One has only to go back to 1920 and to read "RECONSTRUCTING INDIA", a book written by Dr. M. Visvesvaraya wherein he has said "The first lesson to be drawn from this survey by the Government and the people of India is that industries and trade do not grow by themselves, but have to be willed, planned and systematically developed." This shows that he had conceived a planned economy for India even two decades before, thus deserving the honour of being aptly called "The Father of Planned Economy for India."
