Fatigue of Materials in Engineering Design

It is well known that under repeated variation in loading, failure of materials occurs by stresses much smaller than the ultimate strength of the material obtained in the static tests and the magnitudes of these stresses decrease with the increase of the number of repetitions of the variation.
