On July 17, 1937, 117 people were injured and 107 killed by the derailment of an Express train driven by an XB. class Engine near Bihta on the East Indian Railway.
The news of the disaster rendered many homes desolate and many persons went to the scene of the accident to render aid and also to find out the cause of the derailment. But, as no fish plate appeared to have been tampered with and no serious fault in the track was noticeable, the cause was not discovered immediately by the visitors.
