Of late, dimensional analysis has emerged as a very useful tool in all branches of engineering to derive some sort of relationship when the parameters are interdependent. Welding, one of the most important and versatile fabrication methods, embraces so many interdependent parameters that it is not practically possible to find out a relationship between the residual stresses due to welding and other welding parameters without the use of dimensional analysis.

The validity of dimensional analysis applied to the measurement of residual stresses in arc welding as predicted earlier has been experimentally verified and a relationship between residual stresses and shop floor welding parameters obtained.

Abstract

Of late, dimensional analysis has emerged as a very useful tool in all branches of engineering to derive some sort of relationship when the parameters are interdependent. Welding, one of the most important and versatile fabrication methods, embraces so many interdependent parameters that it is not practically possible to find out a relationship between the residual stresses due to welding and other welding parameters without the use of dimensional analysis.

The validity of dimensional analysis applied to the measurement of residual stresses in arc welding as predicted earlier has been experimentally verified and a relationship between residual stresses and shop floor welding parameters obtained.
