Shortage of housing is a country wide problem. But it is acute in urban areas, specially in industrial towns. In our country shortage of urban housing itself is estimated to be of the order of 120 lakhs requiring an outlay of approximately Rs. 12,000 crores. In addition, there is a further, shortage of rural housing of 714 lakhs units.
