Industrial and economic development of the country demands improvement of various modes of transport. This warranted the construction of additional roads to the tune of 400,000 km by the end of the Fourth Plan period. In the ultimate analysis of cost-benefit ratio of road projects, the construction materials assume a significant position or indeed they are the important artery in the cost outlay.
