Underground Conduit Laying by Thrust-Jacking and Shield-Drive Methods
Subscribe/Renew Journal
For various reasons underground conduit laying work has sometimes to be taken up in place of the open trench method. In some countries the former has in many cases even found to be economical than the latter. With rising eosts of labour in India the time will soon come when underground work may prove to be cheaper here than the conventional method. It is therefore necessary that developments of suitable methods and equipments are made in advance to meet the situation in time. Even now there may be applications where it may not be practicable to open trenches without the risk of damaging costly properties alongside narrow streets. In fact the thrust jacking method is being used just now by a firm in Howrah for taking a drainage conduit under a railway line.
