A Theoretical Analysis of the Geometry of Rotary Turning Tool
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Rotary turning tool is basically a three dimensional oblique cutting tool because of a kinematically induced inclination angle. With the change of its peripheral velocity the inclination angle, which is kinematically induced also changes. When the inclination angle is increased, it results in a larger effective rake angle inspite of small actual rake angle thus simultaneously providing ease of cutting as well as strength against brittle fracture. Hence the geometry of rotary turning tool mainly its inclination angle and effective rake angle is dependent both on the cutting velocity and tool peripheral velocity.
