Effect of L-thyroxine, triiodothyroxine, 17α-methyl testosterone and growth hormone were studied on food consumption rate, feeding efficiency, conversion ratio, growth and as a whole on bioenergetics in a freshwater siluroid fish, Mystus vittatus (Bloch). These hormones served as an appetite stimulant and consequently both feeding and growth rate increase. The best performance was observed after the injection of 17α-Methyl testosterone. The reason for such changes has been discussed in this paper.
