In the present in vitro study, involvement of cAMP in basal and E2-modulated brain (hypothalamus and telencephalon) TH activity was demonstrated in female catfish Heteropneustes fossilis. Incubation of enzyme preparation (soluble active fraction) with cAMP (0.05-1 .OmM) and inhibitors of cAMP-specific phosphodiesterase (IBMX, 0.5-2.0mM) and theophylline, 0.5-2.0mM) stimulated enzyme activity in a concentration-dependent manner.
