Ibuprofen Associated Toxicity in the Thyroid Glands
Subscribe/Renew Journal
The effect of ibuprofen in two different doses (1.5mg and 3mg/100gram b. wt/day, respectively for 7 days) was screened in male albino rats with special reference to body weight, organ weight and structure of thyroid gland. The drug had not caused any significant change in body weight in all the treatment groups. The weight of the gland was increased in low dose ibuprofen treated group and decreased in high dose treatment group. The histological studies revealed modest enlargement, increased hyperplasia of central microfollicular and macrofollicular cells, with the latter having significant colloid accumulation and central positioning in low dose drug treated animals.
