A survey was undertaken in the districts of Nadia and North and South 24 Parganas with an objective to study as to how Indigenous Technical Knowledges (ITKs) are adopted by the fish farmers for controlling the diseases. It was observed that a number of ITKs have been adopted by the fish growers since time immemorial irrespective of the status of the grower be it domestic or commercial and marginal, small, medium or large. It was also observed that most of the ITKs have scientific explanation. These are adopted on the principle of "seeing in believing".
