Management of 'Tukra' Causeed by Maconellicococcus hirsutus with Neonicotinoids in Mulberry, Morus alba
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Pink mealy bug, Maconellicococcus hirsutus Green is a major pest of mulberry (Morus spp.), prevailed during pre-monsoon and warmer months in the eastern and north-eastern region. Its infestation leads to 'Tukra', accounts for more than 25% of foliage loss and affect cocoon production in 2-3 seasons. Sensitivity of silkworms to the residue of the chemicals and shorter waiting period warranted for alternative management strategy. Further, to address resistant management new narrow spectrum and efficacious molecules are being recommended in IPM module on rotational basis for conservation of natural enemy complex in agri-production. With this view, two neonicotinoid, viz., Thiamethoxam (25% WSG) and Clothianidin (50% WP) in two concentrations (0.3mg ai/litre and 0.5mg ai/litre) were tested for their efficacy for management of pink mealy bug induced Tukra in mulberry and their impact on leaf yield. Consistent reduction of Tukra incidence with 0.3mg ai/litre of Thiamethoxam and Clothianidin over recommended chemical (0.1% dimethiate) clearly excels over efficient neonicotinoid molecules and can be recommended for management of Tukra in mulberry.
