Comparative Study Of Foliar Architecture Of Some Members Of Tribes Tageteae, Heliantheae And Eupatorieae Of Asteraceae And Its Taxonomic Importance
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Flowers, fruits and vegetative characters of plants are considered as valid characteristics for taxonomic studies. Though the leaves are present in plants for much greater part of its life span than the flowers and fruits, still their use in identification of plants is very limited. Leaf morphological characters can be used for classifying tribes, genus, species and even varieties. A comparative study of the leaf architecture among the members from three different tribes has been undertaken to emphasize the taxonomic importance of venation and its usefulness in taxonomic classifications. In the present study representatives of three different genera, viz., Tagetes patula L., Helianthus annuus L. and Chromolaena odorata (L.) R. M. King & H. Rob. of three tribes of the subfamily Asteroideae of the family Asteraceae viz., Tageteae, Heliantheae and Eupatorieae respectively are used.
